大港区地处天津市最南端，面积1113平方公里，总人口40万，是国家重点发展的特大型石油化工基地之一，是天津市滨海新区的重要组成部分。

   到2010年，大港区将崛起一座占地面积近万亩、在校生6万人的生态“大学城”，形成以高等教育、职业教育和各类专业教育相结合的适用人才教育和培训基地，为石化基地建设提供智力支持和人才保证。 
   目前，主要包括：南开大学滨海学院、天津外国语学院滨海校区、天津外院滨海外事学院、天津医科大学临床医学院、天津检察官学院、国家法官学院天津分院、天津工商职业技术学院等院校、有占地160亩的华苑职业技术专修学院。

   此外占地388亩的天津海洋与石化培训和鉴定中心、占地96亩投资1.2亿元的天津市残疾人体育训练中心等3所学校正在抓紧建设，另有多所院校初步达成落户意向。 

    渤海湾畔的大港，古老而又年轻。蓝天、红顶、白墙、绿地、白鸽、碧水蓝天，扶疏苍翠，楼宇轩昂，色彩斑斓，展示着滨海花园城市的现代气派。

        大港区著名旅游观光景点有世纪广场、临潮湖、望海山、学府园、文化乐园、步行街及海鲜一条街；

   正在建设的旅游项目有：古海岸贝壳堤科技景园、世纪运动场（赛犬场）、明珠垂钓中心等。

   交通非常方便：从市区到大港公交车有659、688、186、161、652几分钟一趟，都经过大港世纪广场。

    整个学府园以柱廊为中心，东西向折线布置，座落于湖中。柱廊共由100根柱子和高度37米、跨度26米的穹顶组成。穹顶内部、外部及柱顶均为浮雕装饰，整体为欧式风格。
   100根罗马柱，壮美风景矗立于大港大学城入口，我每晚站在窗前默默伫立，遥望着不远的罗马柱灯火通明,傍晚散步顺柱仰望宏伟穹顶，柱柱相连依水而立，春天绿叶令众石柱获得生机。雄伟高雅，美丽经典。
